FC Barcelona, the reigning La Liga champion, announced on Monday that Dutch international midfielder Frenkie de Jong has suffered a minor injury to his right thigh.
De Jong left the Netherlands national team camp on Friday shortly after participating in a 1-1 draw against Poland in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, having left the pitch in the 83rd minute.
He may miss the match against Valencia on Sunday, marking the fourth round of the league and Barcelona’s first home game of the season.
De Jong joins fellow midfielder Gavi, who is receiving treatment for his knee, and left-back Alejandro Balde, who is sidelined for three weeks due to a hamstring injury sustained during training.
Following ankle issues, De Jong finished last season in excellent form, having started in two of Barcelona’s three league matches this season, including a 3-0 victory over Mallorca and the draw with Rayo Vallecano.
