Ryanair has announced a new policy to tighten the scrutiny of passengers’ hand luggage. This decision includes an increase in rewards for employees who identify excess baggage beyond the allowed dimensions on flights.
Starting in November, the reward for each piece of luggage that exceeds the specified dimensions will rise from €1.50 to €2.50. Additionally, the monthly cap on employee rewards, previously set at €80, will be eliminated, allowing employees to earn unlimited bonuses for detecting baggage violations at boarding gates.
The airline’s management justifies this move as a means to improve passenger discipline and expedite boarding processes. They note that flight delays often occur due to the need to check in oversized hand luggage.
According to the airline’s current regulations, passengers are permitted to carry one small piece of luggage for free, with maximum dimensions of 40x30x20 centimeters, which must fit under the front seat. Luggage exceeding these dimensions may incur fees of up to €75 at the gate.
Passengers wishing to bring larger hand luggage (up to 55x40x20 cm) must pay an additional fee in advance.
Ryanair Maroc is one of the most frequently used airlines by both Moroccan and European travelers. The airline is known for its low-cost flights to Europe and Morocco, and baggage-related issues rank among the top complaints from passengers.
