Scientists from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Russian Academy of Sciences have warned that the coming days may witness solar flares, the strongest since the beginning of this summer.
A statement from the laboratory noted that “a high concentration of sunspots is still being observed in the southern hemisphere of the sun, which causes powerful solar flares,” adding that “due to the sun’s rotation, its visible disk is moving toward the area of direct influence on Earth.”
It was reported that 20 solar flares were detected in the past 24 hours, five of which were classified as “M” class. The statement explained that “the sun is attempting to release excess energy, which occurs only through significant explosions, thus increasing the likelihood of severe “X” class solar flares in the coming days, potentially the strongest since the start of summer.”
The report indicated that the Earth’s magnetic field remains relatively stable at present, but it could be impacted by the forthcoming solar flares.
Solar flares are categorized into five classes based on the intensity of the emitted X-rays, ranked from weakest to strongest: “A, B, C, M, X.”
These flares can lead to magnetic storms that impact Earth, causing disruptions to power systems and affecting the migration patterns of birds and animals. Additionally, strong magnetic storms can disrupt communication and navigation systems.
