A 17-year-old boy tragically drowned on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 20, while swimming at Al-Karian beach in the city of Tangier.
Emergency services from the Civil Protection unit intervened to recover the body from an area known for its rocky coastline and dangerous sea currents. The body was then handed over to local authorities and transferred to the morgue at Duc de Tovar Hospital.
This incident comes just days after a similar drowning in Tangier, where another minor lost his life in a private swimming pool within the Al Razi residential complex in the Malabata area.
Alarming statistics from the General Directorate of Civil Protection reveal that over 14,000 drowning cases were recorded between May 1 and July 15.
