Starting Today: WhatsApp Introduces Group Calls Similar to Zoom Services

WhatsApp, the messaging platform owned by Meta, has announced a range of new features, most notably the ability to schedule group calls, aimed at enhancing the app’s use in workplace settings.

According to WABetaInfo, a site specializing in WhatsApp updates, starting today, users can schedule calls via the calls tab by clicking the “+” button and selecting “Schedule Call,” with the option to send invitations to colleagues and friends.

This tab allows users to track upcoming appointments, view the attendee list, and receive call links. The link creator receives notifications when a participant joins. Additionally, users can add the appointment to their device’s integrated calendar apps, with each member receiving an alert as the meeting time approaches.

Furthermore, WhatsApp has introduced new interactive features similar to those available on professional meeting platforms like Zoom and Google Meet. These include a “raise hand” feature for requesting to speak and the option to send emoji reactions during calls. While common in other meeting applications, these features are new for WhatsApp users.

These updates come at a time of increasing reliance on instant messaging tools for remote team management, as Meta aims to make WhatsApp a more comprehensive platform for work meetings.
