Al-Saktawi Blames the Final Touch for the Defeat

Moroccan national team coach Tarik Skitioui shouldered the blame for the defeat against Kenya in the third round of Group A in the 2024 African Nations Championship.

During the press conference following the match, Skitioui stated that the national team had a good start but lacked the finishing touch to convert their dominance into goals. He noted that the team made several technical errors during the match.

He emphasized that the players tried to recover the score, but Kenya adopted a defensive approach in the second half, complicating their efforts. He also pointed out the limited attacking movements within the opponent’s penalty area.

He remarked, “When a scoring opportunity arises, it must be seized,” highlighting that the result impacts the flow of the game. He added that “on the field, there is no favorite team.” Instead, offensive and defensive activities are what make the difference.

The national coach commented that “numerical superiority following the expulsion of the Kenyan player is not necessarily an advantage,” as it forces the opponent to retreat and close spaces. Thus, the competing team must be more active in attack within the penalty area to make an impact.

He noted that “the Kenyan national team applied an effective defensive tactic that played a crucial role in this match.” He insisted on the need to “focus now on the upcoming match to achieve a better result.”
