Inter Miami has announced that Argentine star Lionel Messi will be sidelined for an indefinite period due to a mild muscle injury in his right leg. The injury occurred during his participation in a match against Mexican club Necaxa in the American and Mexican leagues.
Messi, 38, was substituted in the 11th minute of the match due to pain in the upper part of his right thigh and later underwent medical examinations to determine the nature of the injury.
The club’s official statement indicated that the examination results revealed a minor muscle injury, noting that the decision regarding the player’s return to competition will depend on the progression of his health and response to treatment, without specifying a timeline for his absence.
Messi is one of the standout players in the league, currently leading the scoring chart with 18 goals and providing nine assists in 18 matches.
Inter Miami is currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings, eight points behind the leader, Philadelphia Union, with three matches still outstanding.
It is worth mentioning that Inter Miami won the Leagues Cup in 2023 following Messi’s transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
