A wedding in the Zayou area recently led to the closure of a confectionery store after pieces of glass were found in sweets served at the event.
Local authorities in the Nador region confirmed that, following the widespread concern generated by the news, medical examinations conducted on individuals who visited the local hospital on Sunday concluded that no injuries were reported. These individuals were found to be in good health, countering rumors of various injuries linked to consumption of the tainted sweets.
To further confirm the medical findings and ensure the health of those involved, three children were transferred to the Al-Hosni Hospital in Nador for more detailed medical examinations. Tests conducted under the supervision of medical staff revealed no signs of glass ingestion, and they were discharged the same day.
In light of the discovery of an unidentified glass shard in one of the sweets consumed, local authorities dispatched a mixed committee to the confectionery store where the products were prepared. Inspections identified multiple violations of health safety standards, leading to the suspension of the store’s operations pending further investigation.
Various media sources reported that 16 individuals were transported from the wedding venue to the emergency department due to varying degrees of injuries. Local reports indicated that some victims exhibited severe symptoms, including oral bleeding, throat injuries, and acute abdominal pain. An initial investigation revealed that the sweets served at the celebration contained glass fragments in an unclear manner.
