Community Leader Assaulted: Truck Driver Accused of ‘Sycophancy’ is Brutally Attacked

The Court of Appeal in Tangier has convicted community member Mohamed A. of assault resulting in permanent injury after he broke the jaw of a truck driver involved in transporting construction materials. This altercation is believed to be linked to a dispute over unauthorized construction activities.

The court sentenced Mohamed A. to three years in prison, along with financial compensation of 30,000 dirhams. Meanwhile, the truck driver received a suspended two-month prison sentence after also being charged with assault.

During the proceedings, Mohamed A. admitted to hitting the driver, stating that he was driving too quickly through the neighborhood, endangering residents’ safety. According to the source, the truck driver had repeated this behavior provocatively. After warning him, the driver allegedly responded in an insulting manner, accusing Mohamed A. of acting as an informant for local authorities.

Mohamed A. claimed he struck the driver in response to being called “a coward and lacking masculinity,” resulting in fractures to both the upper and lower jaw of the driver, though he stated this was not his intention.
