The Joint Military Command in Iran (Headquarters of the Khatam al-Anbiya) announced today the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all types of ships, including oil tankers and commercial vessels, warning that any attempt to pass through will be met with direct gunfire.
The command stated in an official announcement: “The Strait of Hormuz is completely closed to maritime navigation, and any ship attempting to breach it will be subjected to gunfire without prior warning.”
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important waterways in the world, through which about 20% of global oil supplies pass daily.
This announcement comes amid the ongoing military escalation between Iran and the United States, following a series of American airstrikes on Iranian targets.
It is still unclear what impact this decision will have on international navigation or the expected American response, especially with the continued Qatari diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis.
